USDA to buy sugar from domestic processors to cut surplus

The U.S. Department of Agriculture said on Monday it will buy sugar from domestic sugarcane or beet processors and will adjust its re-export credit program as part of a plan cut the surplus and reduce imports.

The move will cost an estimated $38 million and is aimed at removing 300,000 tons of sugar from the U.S. market, it said.
