The Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association (Unica) evaluated positively the agreement reached between Brazil and the United States regarding climate change. For the entity that represents the sugar and ethanol mills, the talks between the two governments can strengthen the biofuels sector.
In a statement, Unica recalled that the presidents Dilma Rousseff and Barack Obama stressed the importance of using clean and renewable energy in their energy matrix. And highlighted the commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions until the year 2030.
“These guidelines open a new front for the sugarcane industry in recognizing the environmental attributes of its main products. We are ready to offer our contribution and participate in future discussions leading up energy policy dialogue between the two countries which was scheduled for the beginning of October”, commented the president of Unica, Elizabeth Farina, in the note.
