Thailand increased sugarcane production in more than 40% in the last five years


Thailand, the second largest sugar exporter in the world, should increase its production capacity of sugar cane in the coming years from the current nearly 100 million tons per season to 120 million tons. The statement was made by the former Secretary-General of the Office of Cane and Sugar (OCSB, its acronym in English), Prasert Tapaneeyangkul during the 9th Sugar World Asia, held in Myanmar in April.

According to the former secretary, who currently works as an environmental consultant in the sugarcane industry, Thailand has achieved amazing results in the expansion of the production of sugar and ethanol. In the last five years there has been an increase of over 40% in sugarcane production, which increased from 70 million tons to nearly 100 million.
