The EU has pledged around US$8 million (€6.16m) to assist Tanzanian sugar exporters in complying with EU standards.

About 13 billion shillings ($8 million) will go towards supporting the EU Accompanying Measures programme, which assists Tanzanian sugar exporters in complying with EU commodity standards.

The funds are part of a wider package of around $11.7m to help improve infrastructure including feeder roads, block farming, as well as supporting educational initiatives that will strengthen the management capacities of small-scale sugar producers.
