Sugar output in Thailand smaller than forecast in 2012/13

Thailand, second-biggest sugar exporter , is likely to have a lower sugar crop in 2012/13 than the forecast of 10.2m to 10.4m tonnes due to lack of rains.

“Although we don’t expect to see any sharp drop in production this year, we have to admit that sugar output could be slightly lower than we forecast earlier,” Prasert Tapaneeyangkul, secretary-general of Thailand’s Office of Cane and Sugar Board (OCSB), told Reuters on Tuesday.
