Sugar cane cultivated area increases only 0.7% in South-Central

CanaSat project data, from the National Institute of Special Research (INPE) show that the area available for harvest in the eight producers States in the Mid-South of Brazil grew only 0.7% between the last two seasons.

According to the survey, there was also an unprecedented reduction between the last two seasons in the cane fields of São Paulo, more than 127 400 hectares. In 2011/2012, the Sao Paulo area of cane available for harvest reached 4.869 million hectares, decrese of 2.55% from 2010/2011. The reduction caused the Sao Paulo area in the current crop of sugarcane become even smaller that in 2009/2010, when it reached 4.897 million ha.
