South Korea: sugar imports fall 2% in 2012

South Korea will probably import 1.60 million tonnes of sugar this year, down 2%, due to sluggish demand, according to Tae Won Jung, senior manager at CJ CheilJedang Corp.

The government initiated direct imports through a state-run company, for the first time. So far around 5,000 tonnes has been bought, he said.
