Rain and wind enlarge impurities in the harvest

The rains and winds recorded in May affected much of the harvest of the plants of São Paulo in the first newly completed month of the 2015/16 crop.

The stumbling is clearly the biggest problem, but, as determined by JornalCana portal, climate situation has generated more impurities in the transportation of sugarcane harvested.

Traditionally, the presence of cane harvested mechanically reaching the industry is on the order of 5% of vegetable impurities and up to 1% of land. The mills are usually prepared technically to deal with these percentages of problems.

But with the recent rains and winds, the harvested cane has reached the industry with up to 8% of vegetable impurities and with more than 1% of land.

“The greater presence of vegetable impurities is also due to stumbling cane”, says the entrepreneur João Henrique de Andrade, director of the Usina Pitangueiras, located in São Paulo city of the same name.

According to him, deal with 8% vegetable impurities and 1% of land has required more cleaning processes, which leads to more investment and time.

Despite the problems, the Pitangueiras, according to Andrade, ended the first month of the season 15/16 in the expected rate of grinding. The unit closed the first 30 days of the cycle with 320 tons grinded . The amount of Renewable Total Sugars (ATR) is low, on the order of 115 kg per ton, but, according to the businessman, this result was expected because of the weather conditions.

For the current season, the Pitangueiras expects to harvest 2,36 million tons of sugar, 100 thousand tons above the cycle 14/15.

Despite the current fall of ATR, Andrade bet that on average will close the current crop with 137 kg of ATR per ton. In the previous cycle, the average was 142,70 kg of ATR per ton.
