Nicaragua: New biomass plant
Cogeneration Green Power SA, which owns power generation project in the mill Montelimar, in the Pacific of Nicaragua, inaugurated this week a modern biomass cogeneration plant, in order to increase energy production and sugar within the mill.
The plant, located in the municipality of San Rafael del Sur, has an installed capacity of 38 megawatts, almost 5% of domestic demand. The project received an investment of 76 million dollars.
Currently, about 10% of Nicaragua generation matrix corresponds to biomass. The country has potential to develop biomass projects based eucalyptus, oil palm and other plants with potential for organic feedstock.
