Mozambique´s sugar output totaled 102,256 tonnes of sugar in the first half of 2012, 24% up from the same period last year, according to the the government’s Centre for the Promotion of Agriculture (CEPAGRI) .
More than half of this amount – 53,583 tonnes – was exported to the European Union for $25.5 mln. 80,729 tonnes of sugar were sold on the domestic market in the first half of 2012, down 4% on the year. Imports of refined sugar were pegged at 7,306 tonnes in the first six months of 2012. The country has four sugar mills.
