Mexico sugar production cycle to grow in 2012/13: Chamber

Sugar production in Mexico would increase by up to 9 percent in the next cycle 2012/13, compared to the previous harvest, due to the better weather which has favored the growth and quality of the cane, said Monday the president of sugar chamber, Juan Cortina.

Mexico has been beaten by weather events in recent cycles, such as the worst drought in recent history, which has affected agricultural production, as its sugar.

Cortina told Reuters that exports in the cycle, which begins in November, would be between 1.2 million and 1.5 million tonnes, compared to the estimated 1.3 million which is expected to be closed on the 2011/12.

To reach 5.5 million tonnes, Mexico would approach the record
