Industry needs to take a leap in ethanol production

The Brazilian sugarcane industry needs to \”take a second leap \” in its production, as the demand for ethanol in the country should reach 70 billion liters in 2020. The statement is from the president of the Union of Industry and Sugar Alcohol (Sindalcool) Edmundo Barbosa, during the opening of the 10th Stab Workshop, held in Paraíba.

During his speech, the leader said that the segment currently produces around 27 billion liters in an area of 8.6 million hectares.\”But in 2020, the Government estimates that this area must increase to at least 14 million hectares and invest in new varieties if we are to meet the domestic demand rather than import fuel as we are doing,\” he said.
