Indonesia’s government to issue 2.6 mln t of raw sugar import permits for 2013

Indonesia’s government plans to allow 2.6 mln tonnes of raw sugar imports in 2013, up 3% from 2.53 mln this year to meet increasing demand for the sweetener, an Industry Ministry official said.

The higher imports next year are still less than imports of 2.97 mln tonnes of raw sugar requested by the country’s food and beverage industry association GAPMMI, said Faiz Achmad, a director of food at the Industry Ministry.
