EU needs to revise its policies to stimulate investment and the production of cellulosic ethanol.

In an exclusive interview for BIO & Sugar, secretary general of Epure, the ethanol industry association in Europe, Rob Vierhout, gave an overview on the current situation of the biofuel in Europe. The secretary said that although there was no specific mandate for blending, consumption in the European Union has grown moderately and constantly, but it is far from overcoming the Brazilian, as reported in the press. He pointed out the lack of incentives for ethanol production, especially second generation, and celebrated the European Commission’s decision to impose an anti-dumping tariff on U.S. ethanol, which starts on February 25.
