Brazil’s center-south cane crush at only 1.8 million tons


Brazil’s center-south region crushed a mere 1.82 million tons of cane in the first half of January versus 10.4 million tons in the second half of December, signaling an end to the 2015/16 crop, according to data released on Tuesday by industry group Unica.

Sugar output reached 29,000 tons in the period compared to 383,000 tons late in December, while ethanol production stood at 92 million liters versus 506 million liters in the second half of December.

The cumulative cane crush in the center-south reached 596 million tons through January 15, up 4.7 pct against a similar period last year.
