Brazilian biofuels producer Vinema Biorefinarias do Sul (VBS) is planning to build the country’s first ethanol mill that use rice and other grains as raw material.
VBS plans to build six mills until 2020 with a total investment of BRL 1 billion, from which 70% is already guaranteed by the government. Together, the mills will have the capacity to produce 600 million litres of fuel a year on a variety of rice, oats and sorghum feedstocks, in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul.
The first plant, whose construction is expected to start between March and April, should start operating by the end 2014. Investments in this unit are estimated between BRL 120 million and BRL140 million.
