Brazil: Sugar beats ethanol in July


From the volume of processed cane harvest until the first half of July, 47.26% went to sugar production, slightly up from 45.86% in the same period in 2011. In the first half of July, this percentage rose to 50.24%, according to Unica, this week.

The sugar production totaled 2.64 million tons in the first 15 days of July, compared to 2.59 million tonnes in the same period last year. In the accumulated since the beginning of the season 2012/2013, sugar production reached 9.33 million tons, while the volume of ethanol production totaled 6.42 billion liters. Of this total, 4.29 billion liters refer to hydrous ethanol and 2.13 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol.

Eethanol production totaled 1.61 billion liters in the first fifteen days of July, with 675.20 million liters of anhydrous ethanol and 929.85 million liters of hydrated.
