Brazil: Sector ships less sugar and more ethanol

Sugar exports through the Port of Santos (SP) decreased, while ethanol shippments increased in the accumulated during the first five months of the year, compared to the same period in 2011. According to a survey of the administration of the Port, between January and May , 3.7 million tons of sugar (in bags, containers and bulk solids) were shipped, down 11.8% compared to 4.1 million tons of the same period last year.

Concerning ethanol, 350 600 tonnes were shipped abroad from Santos, up 54.5% from 227,000 tons the same period in 2011.
