Brazil: reserch finds new enzyme

Embrapa (Brazilian Agropecuary Research Company) ended this month the first phase of a project to develop cellulosic ethanol in partnership with the University of Cambridge in England. The survey began six months ago and produced an enzyme that will be part of a cocktail that can help break cellulose molecules, making the process more efficient. The enzyme is being tested by a multinational, but the contract prevents the disclosure of its name.

The efficient use of enzymes can lower the production cost of second-generation ethanol.
