Brazil – Cogen output continues to expand
This represents 8% of the country’s mix for the period.
The information comes from CCEE’s most recent InfoMercado Mensal report.
According CCEE data, from January to August 2015, bagasse-based cogen units produced 13,740 GWh for the national grid, an increase of 14% compared to the same period last year.
Unica’s bioelectricity manager, Zilmar Jose de Souza, explained that the expansion in output is due to investments made between 2010 and 2014, when the sector increased installed capacity by over 6,000MW.
But between 2015 and 2019, Unica is expecting less than 3,000MW of new capacity will come online, blaming government policy for not incentivising the sector.
