Cofco Agri, controlled by China’s state-run food company Cofco now controls four sugar mills previously owned by Noble Agri, the agribusiness unit of Asian group Noble, according to Valor Economico.
Last March, Cofco completed the purchase of the remaining 49% stake in Noble Agri.
Combined cane crushing capacity of the four mills is 15 million tonnes. Cofco Agri will exclusively focus on sugar production for export to China, which has become a major importer in recent years.
Cofco controls a plant each in China and Australia.
