Australia will develop  A$800 million celulosic ethanol project

Renewable Developments Australia (RDA) has secured $3m from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (Arena) to support the development of a renewable biofuel production facility.

The ethanol plant, to be set up in North Queensland, will cost A$800 million and will have capacity to produce 350 million liter cellulosic ethanol.

The funding will go towards irrigation and crop trials for sugarcane and sweet sorghum as well as early-stage engineering to put together a bankable project for presentation to investors and financiers.

The facility would represent 80% of domestic ethanol production once online and some would be exported via the Port of Townsend.
