The company Amyris inaugurated last week a plant for industrial production of diesel fuel based on sugar cane in Piracicaba (SP). And it´s already preparing investments for two more units next year. In addition, the U.S. company is negotiating with Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro to supply fuel to the fleet of public buses in these cities. He plans to invest $ 150 million to meet future demand.
Since last July , Amyris has tested the biodiesel based on sugar cane in some city buses in São Paulo. The demonstration phase ended in January this year. According Adilson Liebsch, director of marketing for the company, the results were very satisfactory, both for the reduction of toxic gases in the air as the autonomy generated by biofuel in comparison with ethanol.
