American energy companies are destroying the environment in Louisiana

The governor of the U.S. state of Louisiana, Bobby Jindal filed a lawsuit this last Friday against dozens of energy companies.

He argues that the energy companies, including BP and Exxon Mobil, must be made responsible for damage to a region called “wetlands”.

They accessed the areas of oil and natural gas, to build gas pipelines, killing the vegetation, causing soil erosion and allowing the salt water to invade freshwater areas.

Moreover this system expansion ended up destroying a natural buffer protection, which took 6000 years to form and helped mitigate the effects of hurricanes, so common in the region.
